| This is the final battle in our quest to determine the better magical element, ice or earth. And since the score is currently tied, this will determine which element wins. Naturally, the most important question when deciding the better element (or anything else) is this: which side is sexiest? It’s like survival of the fittest, except survival of the hottest. So, let’s see whether ice or earth has the sexier characters. (And if you’re wondering why we’re doing this, the inspiration for this competition comes from my novel, The Frost or the Bite. The main character is a wizard who must decide between ice and earth magic, so we’re answering which is better for ourselves, for funsies.) |

| There are all kinds of frosty badasses with ice powers. There are so many that I was even able to select attractive characters who are in the queer realm. |
Captain Cold
| First is Leonard Snart from The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. He’s a thief turned hero who freezes stuff with a cold gun. Played by Wentworth Miller who is gay and possibly the most gorgeous person in existence, Cold is snarky and has chemistry with basically every single other character he comes into contact with. For simplicity’s sake, I’m just going to say that one or more versions of his character are somewhere in the range of pansexual and gay since I am terrible at keeping track of all the alternate timelines and dopplegangers. |
Iceman
| Iceman from the X-Men comics is a gay superhero who has basically all the ice powers ever. Shawn Ashmore plays him in the movies. For the longest time, I thought I was just terrible at telling him apart from his sibling Aaron Ashmore, but it turns out they’re identical twins. |
The Penguin
| Okay, maybe The Penguin doesn’t fit a conventional definition of sexy but I totally fell in love with him on Gotham. I’m not sure how a murdering, bloodthirsty crime boss can be such a sweetheart but he is just precious. (Or maybe I’m just demented to find him adorable.) I wish they’d have let him have a boyfriend but otherwise he was pretty perfect. |
‘Honorable’ Mention: Ice King
| Okay, this crazy ice wizard isn’t very sexy, or gay, but he lives in an ice lair and has penguin minions so that’s something. I’m mostly including him as an LOL candidate. And because I recently watched Fiona and Cake, which is very gay and apparently getting a second season, which makes me very happy. |
Earth Characters?
| Sometime in the middle of thinking of characters, I realized there was a clear winner. Earth just so obviously gets its ass kicked by ice here. The only legitimate earth-y character I could think of was Prince Sylvain from Nazri Noor’s Wild Hearts Series. And the less good options were Captain Planet and The Lorax. The winner is… Ice!
| So ice won this round, which means that the ice element pulls ahead to beat earth. Ice wins, at least for us. But that doesn’t mean Jack will make the same decision in the novel The Frost or the Bite. Especially when he meets wolf shifter Ewan who is drawn to his earth magic.
